Post 13 - Music Video or Short Film
Should I create a music video or a short film?
Creating a music video gives me more creative freedom as with a music video I don't need to worry about audio ruining the story telling aspect of the video. I don't want to use a well known song that someone else lip syncs to, if I were to create a music video I would use someone I know or could get in contact with, so when the lip syncing and/or performance took place, it wouldn't look awful and out of place in respect to the rest of the video. I wouldn't want my music video to seem student made. I want to go into making music videos when I enter the industry so this kind of practice is very useful. I would love to create a short film, short films allow you to portray unique stories and characters, they make you fall in love with, or hate characters from the word go. however, I have never created a music video, I have never had a song that is not copyrighted or by a well known artist. Having this young talent paired with a music video to help promote her music intrigues me, the way a music video uses the music and the cinematography alone to create a story that the audience understands and enjoys is interesting and I would like to know how to master that talent.
So, final choice, Music Video or Short Film?
After having a hard choice between music video and short film I have decided to do a music video, however the music video could almost be seen as a short film esque production, without the soundtrack and performance aspects. However I am open to the idea of creating a short film if I come up with a better story line for a short film.
