(Out of school) Slow Motion Practice

Recently I watched a youtube tutorial of how to slow motion my videos in order to increase my technical skills within premiere pro and film making. Slow motion is an effect I want to use in my final video therefore I needed to learn it.


I then went on a school trip to an art museum with the art department and decided to play around with my camera to see if I could successfully create a slow motion video. I was happy with the outcome and think it adds atmosphere to my video.

How do I use my Canon 60D to create a high quality video? I wanted to do some research into how to get the best out of my camera to create a cinematic look for my final piece. I spent some time watching videos explaining each setting on the camera to help me achieve this look, I watched hours of videos to help me create the effects that I need. These are some of the videos I used. Short films made using a Canon 60D, the camera I am going to use : As we can see this short film relies on visuals created using different apertures to help create a beautifully lit piece of filmography. This film is filmed using a 30mm camera lens and as you can see the depth of focus is much shallower than the 50mm shown below. Post 5 - Practice task research

To research our preliminary music  video, it is  important to gauge what our audience thinks  about music  videos, what successful music  videos are, and how they consume music  videos. To find out what they think, we decided to interview some different people, of different age ranges to investigate and research their thoughts. To get a good and even demographic we thought our age brackets should be: 10-29, 30-44, 45-60, and 61+. Also, we think that because we don't quite know yet what target audience our practice music video will be aimed at, this can be a good excersize to assess and see what ours may be. LR

Pre-Existing A-Level Music Videos To extend my research on music videos for my preliminary task, I will analyse previous media studies students' work. This will help me with my coursework because it helps me to see the kind of things the exam board specifically want as opposed to the professional music industry. Furthermore, it provides inspiration for my own coursework. 'Stuck' - Canopy Climbers (Henry Nathan) Editing The editing of this video is quite generic. They tend to opt for shorter takes to suit the pace of the song, as long takes wouldn't suit the bounciness and repetition. A technique they don't use is cutting-to-the-beat. This choice was effective because the song doesn't really have a defined beat, meaning that cutting to it would be pointless because the purpose of cutting-to-the-beat is to emphasize the beat.  The student also chose to use cross-cutting between different scenes.
